From the Maine State Police:

On Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at approximately 2:45 pm, Troopers responded to a two vehicle crash at mile marker 161 southbound on I-95 in Plymouth. The initial investigation indicates that a gray 2009 Nissan Rogue was traveling southbound when the driver 23-year-old Nicholas Johnson of Winterport attempted to use a crossover and traveled into the path of a tractor trailer unit also traveling southbound. The tractor trailer unit struck the car broadside causing the car to go off the road and ultimately trapping Johnson inside his vehicle. Johnston was extricated by Newport and Plymouth Fire and Rescue and transported to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield. He was conscious at the scene but sustained serious injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured. The crash is under investigation.

The Maine State Police would like to remind drivers that using crossovers is not permitted for any reason whatsoever. It is illegal and highly dangerous to everyone driving on the interstate. We ask that people drive responsibly for the safety of all motorists.
