The tractor trailer unit struck the car broadside causing the car to go off the road and ultimately trapping Johnson inside his vehicle. Johnston was extricated by Newport and Plymouth Fire and Rescue and transported to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield. He was conscious at the scene but sustained serious injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured. The crash is under investigation.
