Investigators with the Fire Marshal’s Office worked closely with the Waterville Fire and Police Departments on the investigation into the fire at the Last Unicorn restaurant in Waterville. The investigation shows the fire originated in an area where cleaning rags were stored and has been determined to be accidental.

On Sunday, April 23, 2023 at approximately 3:51 am, the Waterville Fire and Police Department responded to a report of a fire at 8 Silver Street in Waterville, which is the site of the Last Unicorn restaurant. Waterville Fire was assisted by many area agencies during the suppression efforts. The Fire Marshal’s Office received a request to respond from Waterville Fire at approximately 5:58 am and a team of Investigators are currently on scene. The fire is actively being investigated at this time and that process is expected to continue throughout most of the day today. Three firefighters received injuries while putting out the fire, fortunately they have been treated and released.
