Clinton Police have been actively seeking Joshua Elliot, 40, of Clinton for felony warrants. The warrants were for theft and burglary out of Piscataquis County.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. this morning, March 11, Clinton Police saw Elliot driving a dark-colored truck and attempted to make a stop on the vehicle. The chase began in Clinton near Mile Marker 138, left I95 at mile marker 133 in Fairfield, and continued for approximately 30 minutes.

The chase ended when Clinton PD and Fairfield PD were able to deploy spike mats which incapacitated the vehicle on the East River Road in Clinton.

Mr. Elliot remained in his vehicle and was believed to be armed with a handgun. He made statements that he wanted to be killed by police.

Maine State Police Tactical Team and Crisis Negotiation Team responded.

After several hours, Mr. Elliot surrendered peacefully to police and was taken into custody without injury. Law enforcement recovered what was initially believed to be a handgun, but upon investigation determined it was a pellet gun.

Elliott was transported to Maine General to be evaluated. He will be charged with Eluding, Failure to Stop, Criminal Speed Operating After Habitual Offender status, Possession of Fire Arm by a Felon, and Creating a Police Standoff.
