A Wells woman passed away while snowmobiling in northern Somerset County yesterday, Feb. 19.

Tanya Hanson, age 50 of Wells, was following her husband on ITS 87 in Johnson Mountain Township when she failed to negotiate a left hand turn in the trail and went crashing into the trees on the right side of the trail at approximately 2:30 yesterday afternoon, sustaining injuries to her head and chest.
On oncoming snowmobiler witnessed the crash and contacted 911. The Maine Warden Service responded along with Jackman Fire and Ambulance and Redington-Fairview Ambulance. Emergency medical personnel performed CPR but Hanson passed away near the scene.
Hanson was driving alone on a 2018 Ski Doo Renegade Enduro and was wearing a helmet.
The crash remains under investigation.
