One Killed in Rockport Explosion

Friday afternoon, May 31, Fire and EMS personnel responded to an explosion at Rockport Steel at 17 Rockville Street in Rockport.

Investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office determined that 39-year-old Sean Rancourt was welding on a diesel fuel tank when it exploded. He received life-threatening injuries as a result of the explosion.

Rancourt was treated on scene by local EMS providers, but did not survive. His body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Officer in Augusta, where an autopsy will be conducted.
