Saturday, Sept. 9, was Maine Open Lighthouse Day. The public is invited annually to visit Maine’s lighthouses for free visits and tours. This year the day turned tragic for 11 people who were injured visiting the Arrowsic lighthouse. A walkway leading to the lighthouse collapsed, causing the injuries around 1pm.
Six people were treated at the scene, while five went to the hospital.
A Maine lighthouse is now closed until further notice after its pathway collapsed, injuring 11 people. It happened during Saturday’s Maine Open Lighthouse Day.
