The Maine Warden Service is investigating a boating fatality that claimed the life of a Florida man Wednesday night, July 5.
From the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife:
At approximately 6:30 last night (July 5) on the Kennebec River in North Anson, Mark Henry, age 72 of Fort Pierce, Florida, was driving an airboat on the Kennebec River in North Anson with Matthew Sleeper, 63 of North Anson. Sleeper had been working on the boat for Henry, and Henry had asked Sleeper to come along on a ride.
According to Sleeper, Henry was driving the airboat on the Kennebec and he adjusted the trim tabs which caused the boat to nose dive into the water. Before Henry could correct the issue, the boat had taken on too much water and sank, throwing the two into the water.
Sleeper and Henry started to swim to shore, but when Sleeper got to shore, he looked back, and didn’t see Henry.
The North Anson and Madison Fire Departments responded to the scene, and the North Anson Fire Department was able to retrieve Henry’s body and bring him to shore.
The crash remains under investigation by the Maine Warden Service.
