Game Warden K9 Gordon and Game Warden Preston Pomerleau located a missing 67-year-old man with dementia last night, July 5, after the man had wandered away from home.

From the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife:

Scott Wing, age 67, of Mattawamkeag, was reported missing by his son last night at 11:45 p.m., and Maine Game Wardens and Penobscot Sheriff’s Deputies responded to search for him.

Wardens and deputies first searched around his residence, calling and looking, but with no success. A drone operated by the Penobscot Sheriff’s office was also utilized but was unsuccessful.

At approximately 3:30 a.m. this morning, two Game Warden K9s arrived at the scene and started searching.

Warden K9 Gordon and Warden Pomerleau began searching the River Road near his residence, and after not finding any sign of Wing, started searching the area down the road at the house of one of Wing’s friends. After a search near the house, K9 Gordon picked up a scent along the edge of the woods, which Gordon and Pomerleau tracked into the woods where they found Wing, a little more than a third of a mile from his house. Wing was coherent and able to talk, but was weak and unable to stand, covered in bug bites, and he was missing a slipper.

Pomerleau gave Wing some water, and with assistance, was able to walk Wing out of the woods. After Wing was examined, it was determined that he did not need any further medical attention, and Wing was brought home to his son.
