Maine Native Who Helped Inspire ‘A League of Their Own’ Has Passed Away

Maxine Drinkwater Simmons of Camden, who helped inspire the movie “A League of Their Own,” has died. Maxine, who is a member of both the National Baseball Hall of Fame and the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame, was 87.

Maxine tried out for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in 1954 and was the first pick of the South Bend Blue Sox.
