Maine’s salary for governor is currently the lowest of any state at $70,000. Members of the State and Local Government Committee unanimously voted to increase the salary for the first time in 36 years, to $135,000.
The measure would also increase the executive’s annual expense account from $30,000 to $40,000. The increase would become effective in January 2027.
