Preliminary approval to a bill that would allow 16 and 17-year-old Mainers to receive gender-affirming care without parental consent.
The stipulations in the bill includes:
- The teen must be diagnosed with gender dysphoria.
- The teen must be experiencing or expecting to experience harm if they don’t receive the treatment.
- Prior counseling from a professional must be given be given before receiving written consent.
The measure will now go to the House and Senate for more voting.
