63-year Thomas Merchant of Hancock, operating a green 1995 Acura 4 door sedan, died in a crash in Hampden over the weekend.

On Saturday, June 17, 2023 at approximately 4:39pm Troopers responded to a crash that occurred in the median near mile marker 176 southbound on Interstate 95 in Hampden. Upon arrival Troopers discovered the male operator of the vehicle 63-year Thomas Merchant of Hancock was deceased in his vehicle. Merchant was operating a green 1995 Acura 4 door sedan. Preliminary investigation reveals Merchant crashed his vehicle into median guardrails and then continued to travel another 300 feet before coming to a stop. The investigation also revealed weather and speed were factors in the crash. Troopers were assisted by Hampden and Hermon Fire Departments. The crash remains under investigation.
