You may end up paying more if you’re caught using your phone while driving. The current penalty for a first time offense is $50.00 and a second offense is $250.00. Bill LD 145 would increase the fine to $500.00 and $1,000.00 respectively.
A public hearing on the bill will be Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the State House in Augusta in Room 126 at 1pm.
