The Maine Legislature’s State and Local Government Committee is discussing a bill that would designate the last Saturday every September as Maine Needham Day.
The bill has been introduced by Rep. Maggie O’Neil ( D-Saco) who says,
Maine Needham Day will promote Maine history, Maine agriculture and our local candy makers and retailers. Needhams start with one of Maine’s staple agricultural products, Maine potatoes, and they have a special place in many Mainers’ family traditions.
Needhams are made with sweetened coconut, a potato filling, and then covered in dark chocolate.
